Goodwill recognized on acquisitions in 2011 relates mainly to the acquisition of Norkus Foodtown supermarket stores and King Kullen
supermarket stores at Ahold USA (see Note 4 for more details). Goodwill recognized on acquisitions in 2010 relates mainly to the
acquisitions of stores from Ukrop's Super Markets and Shaw's supermarket stores at Ahold USA.
Goodwill acquired in business combinations is allocated, at acquisition, to the cash-generating units (CGUs) or groups of CGUs expected
to benefit from that business combination.
