5 Segment reporting
Ahold's retail and foodservice operations are presented in nine business segments. In addition, Ahold's Group Support Office
is presented separately. As of 2006, Ahold's self-insurance subsidiaries in the United States have been included in Group
Support Office, whereas previously they were included in the Stop Shop/Giant-Landover segment. Prior period segment
information presented for comparative purposes has been adjusted accordingly. The accounting policies used for the
segments are the same as the accounting policies used for the consolidated financial statements as described in Note 3.
