The independent supermarket operators associated with
Schuitema, active under the C1000, Spar, Kopak and Casper for
mats, joindy achieved retail sales of NLG 4.0 billion. This repre
sents a 3.7% increase over 1994. The share of the Schuitema
formats in the Nielsen market improved slightly to 10.2% in 1995,
as the CI000 format in particular improved its market share. The
total number of supermarket operators associated with Schuitema
amounted to 502 by year end.
Sales for Schuitema nv (73% owned by Ahold) declined by
0.5% to NLG 3.1 billion. The decrease resulting from the termina
tion of an important supply contract with a third party was almost
entirely compensated by sales growth among its independent
supermarket operators. Its operating results were higher.
In 1995, Ahold Real Estate-Netherlands acquired about 345,000
sq. ft. in gross supermarket space and 57 new locations for Ahold
Specialty Stores. Capital investments amounted to NLG 38.9
million, while operating results increased.
Ahold Real Estate-Netherlands acquires and develops
real estate projects and manages properties for the Dutch subsidi
aries. It has its own in-house research department, provides
consultancy services on a project basis to property developers,
investors and real estate agents and liaises with government bodies.
It also represents the interests of Ahold retail subsidiaries in
dealings with the owners of their leased properties. Ahold Real
Estate is itself the owner of about 320 store properties, virtually all
of them occupied by Ahold chain stores.
